El día sábado 11 de octubre se estará realizando el evento “Libertad sin miedo 2008″ la consignia oficial de este evento es “En varias capitales del mundo, se planea desarrollar actos pacíficos y creativos, desde marchas de protesta a demostraciones artísticas, fiestas, entre otros con el motivo de protestar pacíficamente contra la instalación de un estado de vigilancia permanente y la invasiva recolección de datos personales que se hace en forma permanente desde el Estado y las Empresas”.

Estos eventos se realizarán en diferentes partes del mundo, en Guatemala tendrá lugar un conversatorio con Federico Heinz, quien es un personaje destacado en Argentina en el ámbito de la lesgislación de derechos digitales y como presidente de la organización Via Libre, la cual se dedica a apoyar y fomentar el uso del softweare libre, especialmente de herramientas educativas, además participa en el proyecto self cuyo objetivo es compartir el conocimiento acerca del software libre.

Among the attendees were people from community radio Radio Jen Poj in Oaxaca, Mexico, community radio activists based in Peten, one of the most isolated areas in Guatemala, people working for the disabled creating software and tools for them, from Venezuela, a member of Codigo Sur, a platform that is creating safe software for NGOs in Spanish and visitors from New York (May First), a member from OLPC and several students from Québec.

"New technologies are not isolated from historical background and politics" said one activist attending the III Social Forum of The Americas [1], where many people from different countries attended during a week many activities, among them, an informal talk of Freedom not Fear and why open tools are important to preserve privacy.
