"Securi-what?": Trust, Assurance, Infrastructure, and Humans

by Eleanor Saitta

Understanding the risks and opportunities of the Internet or the implications of government surveillance requires understanding what security actually is. To make things more complicated, this is a moving target -- just as we have a different Internet now than we did 20 years ago, what "secure" means has changed. This is even more important as we bring more devices and more critical infrastructure into contact with the Internet (a la the Internet of Things) and becomes even more complicated when talking about the human implications of all this. Even if you think you understand security, this talk should give you a new perspective on the problems we're currently faced with, and if you're new to the arena, it will give you tools to think with.
