Version vom 28. März 2011, 15:10 Uhr

Up to now this is not more than just an idea ... please don't pin me down on it (says michael)!

Work-and-lobby-weekend on PNR

The idea behind this is to get people from europe together to talk, (net)work and lobby against the planed PNR-Directive.

The group doesn't have to be big (small can be beautyful) but it should be open for everybody interested or specialised in this topic.

When and how? - Proposal of "timetable"

Could happen in may or june 2011.

First set meant to meet over an weekend (saturday and sunday, maybe arrival already on friday evening) in order to get together, give input to each other, organise and strucutrise the topic and to work out a more or less common line.

Spending time together should - not at last - happen at friendly and easy circumstances. It should not be just a "job" but an opportunity to meet and to change minds and ideas.

The following monday shall be used to meet people from commission and member of parliament, who are busy with this pnr-direction. The idea is to give them as much critical and on-fact based arguments of our opinion. It might be useful to work out some straigt and impressive paper on the day before.

Ralf suggested to organise those monday-lobby-meeting within a conference format. He could help to reserve a conference room within the parliament building.

Good Idea, because a similar happening on december 2010 was quite productive (says michael).

Everybody is free to use this day to organize other lobby-meetings on his own and on topics that he is interested in, too.

Possible dates

  • may 28 - 30 <<<up to now the preferred date. please, people, come forward, if that wouldn't be suitable for you. then there will be other common dates that we could detect!
  • june 25 - 27 (conflict with Statewatch's 20th birthday conference in London and with http://www.alternativer-polizeikongress.de in Hamburg)

Brussels-Parliament-Timetable is here.

Lobbying to whom?

First proposal:

  • Timothy Kirkhope (ECR, UK)
  • Jan-Philipp Albrecht (Greens, DE)
  • Axel Voss / Monika Hohlmeier (EPP, DE / DE)
  • Birgit Sippel (S&D, DE)
  • Sophie In't Veld / Alexander Alvaro (ALDE, NL / DE)
  • Rui Tavares / Cornelia Ernst (GUE, PT / DE)
  • Reinhard Priebe, Director - Internal Security, DG HOME Job description: To provide overall strategic orientation and management of Directorate A "Internal Security", within the framework set by the Directorate's-General mission statement and annual work programme. The Directorate operates under the direct supervision of the Director-General.
  • Despina Vassiliadou, Policy Officer - Access to information, DG HOME Job description: Contribute to EU policy regarding access to information, in particular access to Passenger Name Record data (PNR).
  • Peter Csonka, JHA Coodinator, Hungarian Council Presidency
  • Stavros Lambrinidis (S&D, ESP) Vice President of Parliament, Involved in new Data Protection Directive

Any more proposals?

It will be (probably) the biggest problem to organise the meetings with this people on that one monday.

I (says michael) do need help in doing this job, because I am not in contact with most of that guys.

Location

At this moment (says michael) I am looking for a place that fits my idea of an easy and nice atmosphere to get together. I am not a friend of "high-class-suites" but more look forward for a place with sense of well-being.

It should be affordable, too and if anybody prefers to sleep in a better hotel or similar nothing speaks against it.

Of course we will need electrical power :) wifi and at least someting like a good printer or copy-issue for our work.

As soon as I got some facts or response from my requests I will tell here.

Who is interested?

  • michael - DE, from "AK Vorrat", micha_ebeling (edd) mail36 (dot) net
  • Alex - AT, from NoPNR, info (edd) nopnr (dot) org
  • Ralf Bendrath, AK Vorrat / netzpolitik.org / EDRi, bendrath (at) zedat (dot) fu-berlin (dot) de
  • Hauke, Liberal, Green and Radical, EU-Privacy Issues (privacydirective.eu) and Critical Infrastructure, activism[äätt]gierow[bunkt]eu
  • Marius - DE, AK Vorrat, maurice (äth) prodlab (dot) net

Excuse

I am sorry for my bad english - please feel free to correct all the language-nonsense as you like (says michael).
