This is the page to co-ordinate the European Freedom not Fear weekend in Brussels from 26-29 September 2014.

Join us: Freedom not Fear 2014

European policy making is affecting our every day lives and civil liberties more and more. The EU is increasingly imposing unnecessary and disproportionate governmental surveillance measures on us. We are not willing to take this any longer.

Therefore we invite you to join us for about three days of

  • discussions
  • networking
  • protest
  • meetings with politicians

Issues

"Freedom not fear 2014 - Defending fundamental rights in our networked world"

We say NO to surveillance, data retention and PNR and demand the respect of our fundamental rights in the digital environment.

Full list of demands

Costs and application

Freedom Not Fear Brussels (FNF) is for free and you don't have to register - just come, join and participate!

FNF Brussels is non-profit, non-commercial and mainly driven/coordinated by individual volunteers who are working for free.

But FNF Brussels will only become what you make of it. It lives from personal participation and engagement ... and would die, if there were none of that.

When and where?

When?

From 26. – 29. September 2014 (Friday till Monday).

We are starting on Friday afternoon.

The official ending of the meeting shall be on Sunday evening, but there will be some more "action" on Monday, September 29, as some people want to organize some meetings with people from the EU Commission and Parliament.

Where?

Mundo-brussels01.JPG

We have booked some rooms in the "Mundo B" at Rue d'Edimbourg 26, where we had some wonderful days at Freedom not fear 2011, 2012 and 2013.

It's the home of some non-governmental organisations and a very lovely place with lots of space for our meeting.

Structure

Fnf-strucutre-logo.png

We would like to offer time & space to exchange thoughts and concerns directly. As we believe, networking beyond borders is becoming more and more important; therefore this "event" shall provide an opportunity to get citizen initiatives from different countries together.

We will thus have four days of "Freedom not fear" in Brussels:

  • 25.9.2014 (Thursday): Apero on the Future of the Internet pre-event from Access
  • 26.9.2014 (Friday): Arriving, first meeting
  • 27.9.2014 (Saturday): Slots of networking, lectures and talks
  • 28.9.2014 (Sunday): Slots of networking, lectures and talks
  • 29.9.2014 (Monday): Meetings with politicians (self-organized!)

Schedule (timetable)

Find the Schedule for the three days and Mundo and its development here and feel free to add your personal input.

Proposed topics

Confirmed topics

  • Workshop Net Neutrality - Workshop on the current state of net neutrality, comparing the situation in the EU, the US and elsewhere. Together we will seek to find the ways we can influence the process toward European guaranteed net neutrality. And we will try to come to an understanding of which way we can expect net neutrality to develop in the coming years.

Schedule

Traveling and accommodation

Fnf11bxl-accomodation-logo.png

Generally, accommodation has to be organized autonomously. But there is the option to stay at an organized mass accomodation or participate in an organized trip.

Mass accommodation

Is already booked and available! If you want to stay at mass accomodation near Mundo B contact info(at)freedom-not-fear.eu

Digitalcourage planned trip

Trips to Brussels can be subsidized by Members of the European Parliament. So we are happy that Jan Philip Albrecht (Green Party Germany) gives some funding from his visitors budget: E.g. pay 80 Euro upfront, get 3 nights at the Hotel in Brussels, and get a 100 Euro refund as you take part in the official visiting program of the EU Parliament on Monday, Sep. 29.

Infos here [1] - still several places available - but please be fast: registrations will close September 10, 2014!

Cost transparency

The rent for Mundo B was paid by CCC this year, thanks for that. The remaining costs are those for the apartments for public accomodation. In total this accounts for 257€ + €334 = 591 €
